What to Do in Paros, Greece

For our third stop on the Cyclades itinerary, we chose to visit Paros. If you’re planning a trip to this beautiful island, we recommend spending around three days and nights to fully explore Paros and its neighboring island, Anti-Paros.

3-Day Itinerary for Paros

Visit Naoussa

Located at the northern tip of Paros Island, just 10 km from the main port of arrival, Naoussa is an exceptionally charming town that epitomizes the beauty and character of the Cyclades. Although it might not be the most strategically placed for exploring every corner of Paros, given that other noteworthy villages are about a 15-minute drive away, Naoussa is undeniably a must-visit destination in its own right.

Naoussa enchants visitors with its quintessential Cycladic allure. The town’s narrow, winding cobblestone streets are lined with whitewashed houses that gleam under the Greek sun, their facades punctuated by colorful shutters and vibrant bougainvillea cascading from balconies. The blend of bright colors and traditional architecture creates a postcard-perfect setting that’s both picturesque and inviting.

One of the most captivating features of Naoussa is its charming fishing port. This harbor is arguably the most picturesque we’ve encountered in Greece. The port is alive with the vibrant hues of small fishing boats bobbing gently on the crystal-clear water, their colors contrasting beautifully against the white of the buildings and the blue of the sea. The scene is complemented by traditional restaurants that line the quay, their wooden chairs painted in an array of bright colors. These restaurants offer not only delightful local cuisine but also an authentic glimpse into daily life on the island.

The port is a focal point for both locals and visitors, providing a lively atmosphere where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll, savor fresh seafood, and take in the serene views. The sight of dried octopuses hanging out to dry in the sun, a common practice in the area, adds an additional layer of local flavor and charm to the scene. As you walk along the harbor, the gentle sway of the boats and the distant chatter from the restaurants create a relaxing and picturesque environment perfect for capturing memories with your camera.

Naoussa is a gem of the Cyclades, offering a captivating blend of scenic beauty and authentic charm. Its enchanting streets, stunning harbor, and vibrant atmosphere make it a delightful stop on any journey through Paros.

Explore the Villages

Lefkes & Prodromos

These two inland villages on Paros are our favorites. They are both accessible within 15 minutes from Naoussa or slightly longer from the main town of Parikia.

  • Prodromos is tiny and not very touristy. It features few shops or restaurants, but it offers an authentic local experience. Spend about an hour wandering through its quaint streets.
  • Lefkes is one of the most visited villages on Paros. Nestled in the mountains at the center of the island, it’s a must-see. Be prepared for some steep climbs. The village is pedestrian-only, so parking is available outside. If you love taking photos, plan to spend several hours here. Climb up to the main church and enjoy a refreshing break on one of the terraces in the main square.

Must-See in Paros

A Day Trip to Anti-Paros

Is visiting Anti-Paros essential? The answer largely depends on the length of your stay on Paros and your interests. If you’re planning to spend only two days on Paros, the extra trip to Anti-Paros might not be worthwhile given that visiting Anti-Paros can take nearly a full day. However, if you have more time, the short ferry ride and the unique charm of Anti-Paros could make it a valuable addition to your itinerary.

To reach Anti-Paros, you’ll first need to drive to the Pounta port, which is about 30 minutes from Naoussa. If you’re based in Naoussa, you should account for a total round trip of approximately 1 hour for the drive to and from the port. If you’re staying in Parikia, the drive to Pounta is also around 30 minutes, making it quite manageable.

The ferry ride to Anti-Paros is both affordable and quick. The cost is €1.20 per person for a pedestrian ticket. If you’re bringing a small vehicle, the ticket price is €6.30. Tickets can be purchased directly on the ferry, so you don’t need to worry about buying them in advance. The crossing itself is brief, taking just 7 minutes, with ferries departing every 30 minutes throughout the day.

We chose to start our visit early to make the most of our time on the island. Once you arrive on Anti-Paros, the main village is immediately accessible. Although it’s not large, it’s imbued with a quaint charm typical of Greek island villages. The village’s narrow streets and traditional architecture offer a peaceful and picturesque setting.

For a delightful experience, we recommend heading to the terrace of Bougainvilles, a local café known for its stunning views and serene ambiance. Enjoying a coffee on their beautiful terrace is a great way to soak in the atmosphere and relax before exploring more of the island.

If you have the time and enjoy exploring smaller, less crowded locales, Anti-Paros is definitely worth a visit. Its tranquil charm and natural beauty provide a wonderful contrast to the more bustling Paros and can offer a serene escape in your Greek island adventure.

What to Do in Anti-Paros

The main attractions of Anti-Paros are its secluded coves and wild beaches.

We decided to explore the southern tip of Anti-Paros, which took us about 30 minutes by car from the main village. The journey is worth it for those seeking more secluded and picturesque spots. However, be aware that the first cove we visited (you can find it using the GPS coordinates provided) is accessible only by quad. This remote location offers a tranquil escape, but it’s essential to check the sea conditions before heading out. High waves can make the area less inviting and potentially unsafe for swimming. For up-to-date sea conditions and wind information, the Wisuki app is a handy tool to help you decide whether it’s a good day for a visit.

On the eastern coast of Anti-Paros, you’ll discover several large and beautiful beaches. Paralia Sostis, in particular, stands out. It’s accessible by car, though you’ll need to navigate a dirt and sandy road to reach it. The effort is rewarded with a natural and unspoiled setting, and the water is exceptionally clear and inviting. It’s an ideal spot for those looking to relax in a more natural environment away from the more tourist-heavy areas.

For those who prefer a beach day without the need for extensive travel, you’ll find convenient options close to the port. The “First” and “Second” Psaralyki Beaches are located just 8 and 15 minutes on foot from the port, respectively. These beaches offer a more accessible and relaxed option for enjoying the sun and sea. Additionally, Sifneiko Beach, also in the vicinity, is a great choice if you’re staying overnight. Its proximity to the port and stunning views make it an excellent spot for watching the sunset, providing a perfect end to a day on the island.
